Iran: Israel after Changing Regional Countries' Borders.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli warned that Israel is after changing borders of the regional states to make them weak, alluding to Tel Aviv's support for the independence referendum in the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

"We are in a region that the Zionist regime blatantly supports distorting the regional borders," Rahmani Fazli said on Tuesday.

Noting that Israel and its allies which have failed in their plots against the regional states by means of terrorist groups are now after new plots, he said, "That plot is to distort the regional borders but certainly they will not succeed" and the regional people are now aware of the US and the Zionist regime's ill-wishing plans.

In defiance of Iraq's stiff opposition, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) held a non-binding referendum on September 25 on secession from the central government in Baghdad.

Official results showed 92.73 percent of voters backed the secession. Turnout was put at 72.61 percent.

While much of the international community, including the United Nations, the European Union and Iraq's neighbors, has opposed the referendum, only Israel has openly supported an independent Kurdish state.

Regional players Iran and Turkey have opposed the Kurdish referendum in Iraq, warning that the controversial vote could lead to further instability in the entire Middle East.
