Iran, Uruguay Agree to Ink MoU on Environmental Cooperation.
The agreement was made in a meeting between Head of Iran's Department of Environmental (DoE) Mohammad Javad Mohammadizadeh and Uruguayan Foreign Minister Luis Leonardo Almagro Lemes on the sidelines of the Fourth Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly.Also at the meeting, the two sides announced their eagerness to expand mutual cooperation.Almagro stressed his country's strong resolve to develop relations with Iran in areas of agriculture, fishery, cattle-breeding and industries, and asked for a promotion of the level of exchanges between the two countries in the gas and energy sector.Mohammadizadeh, for his part, referred to the potentials existing in Iran in different arenas of agriculture, fish farming, meat products, farm animals and construction of cement factories, and announced Tehran's preparedness to further increase cooperation with Uruguay in mutually desirable areas.The representatives of the GEF member countries, meeting this week in Punta del Este, on the Atlantic coast 140 km east of the Uruguayan capital, will decide on the environmental financing priorities for the 2010-2014 period.The GEF, the world's largest environmental fund, is a partnership with the private sector, NGOs, and 10 international agencies, including the UN Development Program, the UN Environment Program, the World Bank, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the UN Industrial Development Organization, the African Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.
