Iran, Russia, Turkey Convene for New Round of Astana Talks.

Summary: TEHRAN (FNA)- The representatives of Iran, Russia, Turkey and Syria as well as the opposition groups started the 8th round of Astana talks in Kazakhstan on Thursday.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari, who is also Iran's top negotiator in International Conference on Peace in Syria, is also attending the Astana Talks.

The 8th Astana International Conference is scheduled to be wrapped up on December 22.

Delegations from guarantor states, Iran, Turkey and Russia, the Syrian government and the opposition groups as well as observers like the UN, the US and Jordan are participating in this round of talks.

Astana Talks on Syria initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin and upon his agreement with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in December 2016.

The Astana talks have run parallel to negotiations taking place in Geneva with the backing of the United Nations, and the congress plan appears to be Moscow's attempt to force the pace in a bid for a political settlement.
