Invest time in the kids.

Byline: Susan Lee

BABY-FACED presenter Adrian Chiles has admitted that his marriage has run into trouble.

We don't know the ins and outs of course, but there is some suggestion that he has focused too much on his career and not enough on his wife and kids.

"He finds it hard to say no to work," says a source.

It's a familiar story in many households.

While it's seen as nothing unusual for women to scale back their careers when children come along, it doesn't work the same for blokes. I also suspect, for some men, spending long hours in the office is away of avoiding the stresses and strains of trying to get kids read to, fed, bathed and bedded before cooking tea and clearing the Lego from the living room.

But childhood is such a fleeting time. Before you know it, they're refusing stories and nighttime cuddles and demanding the car keys.

Invest in them and your kids will invest in you, I say.

And remember who'll be choosing your nursing home.
