Introduction to U.S. Income Taxation.

Athabasca University and U.S. CPA Success are pleased to jointly introduce this new classroom-taught course in U.S. Income Tax. Athabasca University, Canada's Open University, specializes in innovative modes of program delivery. It utilizes international partnerships to enhance the university's flexibility, open access, and quality of programs offered to more than 26,000 students.

Who Should Attend This Course:

* Accounting professionals seeking continuing education and an introduction to U.S. federal income taxation. This course is ideal for those with little or no exposure to U.S. Tax.

* Uniform CPA Exam candidates writing through the state of Delaware. This tax course meets the Delaware State Board of Accountancy's eligibility requirements.

* University students wishing a 3-hour degree-credit course in U.S. Tax.

Course Curriculum:

This course provides an introduction to the US taxation system and is presented in ten lessons:

Lesson 1 - The Importance of Taxes

Lesson 2 - The Government Tax Structure and Tax Policy

Lesson 3 - Types of Taxpayers

Lesson 4 - Income, Exclusions, and Deductions

Lesson 5 - Tax Accounting Methods

Lesson 6 - Property Transactions

Lesson 7 - Corporate Taxation

Lesson 8 - Pass-Through Entities

Lesson 9 - Taxation of Individuals and Sole Proprietors

Lesson 10 - Tax Compliance and Tax Planning

This course is offered over five days and consists of 39 hours of live classroom instruction. Participants who require credit for the course must complete three assignments and a written final exam. Those participants who are attending for continuing education will not have those requirements.

Uniform CPA exam candidates who take this course will have a significant advantage on the tax section of the U.S. Uniform CPA exam.

Course Fee:

The course fee is $2,250 (plus GST) and includes all required course materials and textbooks. No advance preparation is required.

Course Instructors

Betty Wong has been a member of the faculty at Athabasca University's School of Business since 1991. She is an experienced instructor and has taught many accounting, auditing, and tax courses. Ms. Wong has lectured at other post-secondary institutions and was a marker for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta's Qualifying Examination. She is consistently highly-rated by her students. Prior to joining the faculty at Athabasca University's School of Business, Ms. Wong spent over 10 years in public practice. Ms. Wong is a Canadian Chartered Accountant and is certified as an American Certified Public Accountant.
