Intraware Delivers Freeware Programs To Informix Developers; Intraware's SubscribNet Service Provides Free Notification and Delivery of Updates for Linux Developers.

MENLO PARK and ORINDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 10, 1998-- Intraware, Inc., the leading Intranet software services company, and Informix(R) Corporation (NASDAQ:IFMX), the technology leader in enterprise database-powered solutions, today announced that they have entered into an agreement whereby Intraware is the exclusive electronic distribution partner for Informix's free Linux developer kit program.

Using Intraware's electronic engine as the delivery vehicle, Informix is able to quickly and cost-effectively distribute free software via the Web to their extensive developer base. Additionally, Linux developers will receive proactive electronic notification and delivery of future updates through Intraware's SubscribNet service.

Informix has partnered with Intraware to increase its market presence and afford developers easy access by distributing free database software development licenses to developers who build Informix database applications. Since June, Intraware has also been Informix's distribution partner for the Informix TNT program, which offers free development licenses to NT application developers.

Intraware's collaboration with Informix now gives developer partners the ability to download a free Linux developers kit that includes Informix SE; ESQL/C, Informix's SQL toolkit; and I-Connect, the runtime version of ESQL/C. As a result of a June announcement by Informix, NT application developers are able to register and download Informix Dynamic Server(TM) on NT from Intraware via Informix's Developer Network web site at http://www.informix.com/idn. Free NT development licenses are available until December 31, 1998.

"Selecting Intraware's distribution service as our electronic delivery vehicle was an important element of our program to reach the Linux software developer community," said Joe Niemann, vice-president for distribution channels for Informix. "In the past, we have distributed software to our developers using CDs. Now, Intraware provides us with an electronic distribution service that is a cost-effective and a highly efficient way to communicate and work closely with our developer community. Intraware's service enables developers to download the software and receive software updates proactively, eliminating the waiting period associated with physical media updates. Taking advantage of distribution and update technology from Intraware plays a key role in our ability to maintain strong relationships with our developer community."

Intraware's SubscribNet is a web-based, multi-vendor software update service that provides end-users with a customized email notification of software updates and on-demand access to software downloads. Introduced in June 1998, SubscribNet enables enterprise customers to simplify and add intelligence to the software maintenance process. To date, SubscribNet has proven to significantly relieve the burden of tracking and retrieving software release entitlements.

"We are very pleased to partner with Informix to successfully execute this bold technology marketing initiative," said Peter Jackson, President and CEO of Intraware. "We have enjoyed a long-standing relationship with Informix. This latest agreement complements our distribution agreement with Informix announced in June to provide distribution for their TNT Developer initiative aimed at providing easy access to Informix Dynamic Server for NT Developers. These programs underscore the crucial role that electronic software delivery and maintenance play in ensuring success between software vendors and their partners, developers, and customers."

Intraware has tapped into a growing trend set by software vendors who have realized a competitive edge by distributing free software to key partners and developers. By providing developers with free and early access to new software, they increase their software adoption rate while responding to their partner's time-to-market pressures.
