Using a single stepfamily case study, this resource illustrates how to apply multiple family systems theories and treatment planning to common stepfamily issues. It contains 11 chapters that apply Adlerian family therapy, transgenerational family counseling, prescriptive play therapy, structural family therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and narrative family therapy to the case, and additional chapters address ethics and diversity issues in counseling stepfamilies. Each chapter addresses the rationale for choosing the therapy, theoretical constructs that facilitate insight, intervention and therapeutic strategies, the effectiveness of the approach, diversity and cultural considerations, factors that influence clinical services delivery, and advice for students or clinicians using the therapy. Contributors are practicing family counselors in the US. (Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR)
