Internet bookstore to be launched by Sony.
An Internet bookstore selling electronic books, called the Sony Connect book store, is to be launched by Sony.
In addition the company announced that it is to introduce the Sony Reader Portable Reader system, a product that displays e-books purchased from the store, on 1 October.
The device reportedly uses electronic ink technology supplied by E Ink of Cambridge, Massachusetts, US. The product is not back-lit and a source of light is required in the room in order to view the page.
According to Reuters, the Sony Connect book store will stock approximately 10,000 books from six publishers including HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster.
The Sony Reader Portable Reader system will retail for approximately USD350 and new customers will, for a limited period, receive a credit of USD50 to purchase books from the service.
