International Society of Public Interest Lawyers names honorary fellows.

Michael Bedke of Tampa has been named by the International Society of Lawyers for Public Service as one of its 10 honorary fellows for his work to serve his community.

The ISLPS was formed to recognize and certify lawyers and other legal professionals who are committed to promoting pro bono legal, charitable, and civic service and to inspire other lawyers and legal professionals to do the same, according to Peter Romary, the organization's founder.

"The society is not a list of free lawyers, rather it is an honor role of the finest and most noble members of the legal profession, those who have pledged to help others who need assistance," Romary said.

Bedke was honored for his work with the ABA's Commission on Domestic Violence and his service on numerous boards that provide legal assistance to those in need.

Other fellows include trial lawyer Roxanne Barton Conlin of Iowa, Joseph J. Levin, Jr., co-founder of the Southern Poverty Law Center, Cherie Booth, the wife of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Judge Richard Goldstone of South Africa, who has presided over the Commission of Inquiry Regarding Public Violence and Intimidation.
