Intermedia Expands Sales Reach With Tech Data Agreement.

TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 1998--Intermedia Communications Inc. (Nasdaq/NM:ICIX) today announced the expansion of its sales platform through a cooperative sales agreement with Tech Data Corporation, the world's second largest computer distributor. Under the agreement, Tech Data's systems integrators will offer Intermedia's extensive data networking services to their customers.

Intermedia, a leading provider of integrated telecommunications services for business and government end users, sees the agreement as an energizing component of its strategy for vertical and horizontal growth in the business-to-business telecommunications market.

"This agreement is an important component of our drive to become the country's pre-eminent provider of enhanced data services," said David C. Ruberg, Intermedia's chairman, president and chief executive officer. "Association with a company of Tech Data's size, global reach and sterling reputation is a tremendous asset. The speed, volume and customer service of our network services neatly parallel the quality of Tech Data's product offerings. The Tech Data - Intermedia combination enables businesses to compute, communicate and compete, efficiently and effectively."

Under the terms of the two-year agreement, Tech Data will essentially serve as a matchmaker between their systems integration customers and Intermedia. One of Tech Data's key markets, systems integrators are the companies that sell, install, and maintain computer systems for businesses, serving essentially as an outsourced MIS department.

"Intermedia's breadth of telecommunications products makes it easier for our resellers to provide a total networking solution for their customers," observes Matt Millen, director of client services development for Tech Data. "By wrapping these services into their overall solutions offerings, it affords them greater opportunity to establish recurring revenues with existing customers, while giving them a competitive edge to win new business."

Tech Data sales representatives will now offer Intermedia's enhanced data networking services (frame relay) as well as integration services including dedicated Internet access, campus and metropolitan LAN connectivity, customer premise equipment and network fiber builds. Intermedia's high-speed private lines (56K and T1 speed) and special access circuits (up to DS-3 connectivity with long distance carriers) will also be offered.

Intermedia will benefit from the agreement in several key ways, including:

-- Rapid and cost-efficient entry into new city markets. -- Shortened sales cycles and reduced sales costs from leveraging

relationships with locally established systems integrators. -- Tech Data will represent Intermedia to their 3000 top wide area

network (WAN) integrators.

Both local success stories, Tech Data and Intermedia have been based in the Tampa Bay area since they were founded. Tech Data has grown into a global computer distributor with $7.1 billion in sales during 1997. In the ten years since its founding in Tampa, Intermedia has grown into a nationwide provider of integrated telecommunications services to business and government customers across the country.
