TELECOMWORLDWIRE-10 September 2002-Intel to use hyperthreading in desktop processors (C)1994-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Chip maker Intel Corp has revealed that its hyperthreading technology will be used in desktop processors before the end of 2002.

Hyperthreading will be used in desktop processors to enable different elements of the chip to be active at the same time. This will reportedly improve processor performance by 25% to 30% on software applications that are tuned to take advantage of the technology.

The company has claimed that hyperthreading will appear in the 3GHz Pentium 4 for desktops.
