Railway company VIA Rail Canada is set to provide its passengers travelling between Montreal and Toronto with wireless Internet access.

The wireless Internet service will be deployed by chip maker Intel Corp and telecomms company Bell Canada. Bell Canada will supply its Bell ExpressVu satellite service, its 1X wireless network and its data network while Intel will provide its Wireless Verification Program.

The initiative is a four month pilot project which is designed to determine if Internet access is viable on Canadian trains.

The cost of the programme and the price of the Internet access service were not announced.
