Institute for brewing reaches a milestone.

The Institute for Brewing Studies, celebrating its 10th year, has reached a membership milestone with more than 500 active members.

The Institute first became a membership organization in 1988, and gathered 300 members in the first three years. In its fourth year the group increased membership 71 percent, and by the end of 1992, had exceeded projections by 21 percent.

The founding of Institute coincided with California's state legislation paving the way with the passage of the country's first brewpub law. Since then, Institute director Jeff Mendel reported, the IBS continues to grow and prosper by giving members access to products and services designed to enable them succeed.

"In our 10th year, we are committed to continuing to increase the value of membership," Mendel said.
