Inspirational Laure 'was a great teacher with a lot of patience'.

A POPULAR teacher who went out of her way to help pupils has been remembered as an "inspiration" to her students.

The life of stained glass teacher Laure Petiot has been celebrated following her death on December 27 at the age of 60.

Born one of four children in northern France, Laure moved to London at the age of 18 full of "a sense of adventure".

After meeting her future husband at a party, the pair moved to Swansea where Laure studied stained glass for three years at the West Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education.

A year after qualifying, Laure found a job in 1989 as teacher at the Howardian Centre in Cardiff teaching stained glass to adults.

A natural teacher, she went on to run the course for 28 years as well as branching out to teach 10 classes a week including silversmithing and jewellery.

During her time at the centre, Laure developed many close friendships with her students, including one gentleman aged 94 who she would visit at home.

With some people attending her classes for up to 25 years, the mum of three devoted her time to planning her courses and sourcing equipment from London.

In 2017, Laure married her longterm partner Peter Morfey at a ceremony at Cardiff register office at City Hall.

She will be sorely missed by their three children Stefan, Marianne and Tom.

In her spare time Laure enjoyed being active and helped look after the family allotment and would cycle and walk with Peter.

In the house she would enjoy reading and watching films.

Paying tribute, Peter said: "Laure was a very calm and reliable person.

"She would listen carefully to people and was a great teacher with a lot of patience.

"Laure would point people in the right direction rather than tell them what to do, which people greatly appreciated."

He added: "I've had a lot of cards from people I never met who had being going to Laure's classes for 10 years and said she was their inspiration."

Laure's funeral will be held today at the Wenallt Chapel, Thornhill Crematorium.
