Magical Places in Europe for Family Visits This Christmas Christmas is meant to be the most magical time of the year. So, rather than dishing up the usual turkey, stuffing and sprouts for dinner and settling down to watch the Queen''s Speech on 25 December, why not try something completely different? There are plenty of ways to skip the supermarket queues and make this Christmas holiday more memorable for your family, with affordable holiday package deals from Cosmos. Many families will choose to go away this Christmas and give children and loved ones a helping of seasonal magic - and it doesn''t get more magical or traditional than visiting Santa in his grotto. Nowadays it isn''t necessary to go to the North Pole to visit Father Christmas: Lapland holidays make the great man more accessible, with plenty of cheap flights available this season. Activities such as snowmobiling, husky dog rides and tobogganing are all on offer before or after the big visit to Santa''s workshop. Winter sports lovers can head to northern Norway and the beautiful area of Finnmark for great skiing and sledding action, or snuggle under some thick animal skins for a reindeer ride. After being pulled across stunning landscapes of snow and ice underneath clear blue skies, you can reward yourself with a thick hot chocolate back at the resort. Finnmark is also an excellent place to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights: one of the world''s most awe-inspiring wonders, the Aurora Borealis is due to reach the peak of its activity this winter, promising a dazzling display. For something a little more urban, Denmark is a top Christmas destination, boasting some of the best Christmas markets in Europe. These festivals of traditional crafts, baked goods, mulled wine and trinkets make a great place to spend a day, moving from stall to stall, examining the offerings - and picking up one or two gifts to slip into stockings or under the tree. The Copenhagen market, open from 11 November, is a true winter wonderland, where you can enjoy seasonal illuminations, carols and authentic Danish delights. Wed, Oct 24, 2012
