Injuries a Plis point for Karol; TENNIS.

Byline: Steven Mair

It's just over a week until the Australian Open begins and the contest has been blown wide open by an array of injuries in both the men and women's draw.

Serena Williams won't be retaining her title after withdrawing on Friday, which boosts Karolina Pliskova's chances.

The former world No.1 is yet to win a Grand Slam and the Melbourne championship could be a breakthrough moment for the Czech star.

She is available at 6/1 with Paddy Power and is the joint favourite with Spanaird Garbine Muguruza. Brit hopeful Johanna Konta is 17/1. In the men's game, Andy Murray has pulled out, while Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic are both struggling with injuries making Roger Federer the clear favourite.

The reigning Australian Open champion could net a 20th Grand Slam this month and he's 15/8 with Paddy Power.

If you fancy backing an outsider, Alexander Zverev is my pick.

The German ran Federer close in the Hopman Cup Final yesterday and at 9/1 the 20-year-old is worth an each-way shout, meaning you'll pocket some profit even if he loses in the final.

Steve's stoater Zverez to win (E/W) 9/1 Pliskova to win 6/1
