Information session on joining boards of non-profits.

Young professionals can learn more about the function of nonprofit boards at a special seminar hosted by Brant United Way's GenNext team.

Get On Board, a panel discussion featuring young professionals from non-profit boards within Brantford and the surrounding community, will take place on May 6 in the third floor auditorium of the Brantford Public Library at 173 Colborne St.

The goal of the event is to motivate younger professionals to get involved with community nonprofits.

"I wanted to be part of an event that would dispel some myths about who could be on a board and to encourage my peers to get involved. I know there are a lot of great people in this community who do so much, but there are also many who want to do more and just don't know where to start. Our goal at GenNext is to match up young professionals, who want to give back, with those organizations who want and need their unique skills and perspective," said Sarah Disher, GenNext executive member and event organizer, in an Apr. 24 press release.

Admission is free, but space is limited. Register at GenNextGetOnBoard.eventbrite. ca by Friday, May 2 to reserve a spot. Parking is available, both on the street and at the Market Centre Parkade, which provides quick access to the back entrance of the library. The Market Centre Parkade charges 75 cents per hour.
