Info Plant Surveys Supplement Usage of Chinese Urbanites.

Tokyo, Japan, May 16, 2006 - (JCN) - Online market researcher Info Plant announced on May 15 the results of a survey on supplement usage of Chinese people living in Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou.

The survey of 300 Chinese aged 18 or older who are currently employed was conducted from April 6 to 11. When asked about their images of supplement products (multiple answers allowed), 50.7% of the respondents said that they trust in products made of naturally-derived compounds, and 42.3% prefer brand-name products.

Meanwhile, 39.3% consider that supplement products tend to be expensive, and 34.0% pointed out the problems of exaggerated advertising.

About 70% of the respondents take supplements. By usage breakdown, 11.7% take supplement products on a daily basis, 23.0% not daily but regularly, and 36.0% on an as-needed basis.

When asked about the purpose of taking supplements (multiple answers allowed), 76.1% mentioned that they take them to strengthen their immune systems and improve their physical conditions, followed by to treat fatigue (62.0%), to improve the digestive system (45.1%), and for anti-aging purposes (43.7%).

When asked what they consider important in purchasing supplement products (multiple answers allowed), 88.3% cited effects and efficacy, followed by ingredients (77.9%) and price (71.8%).
