Inexplicable team selection decisions.
SELECTION is, of course, a matter of individual judgement and I would have thought that Robin McBryde was in a better position than I to exercise that judgement when selecting the Wales touring party.
However, after seeing the party selected, I wonder he's taken leave of his senses.
It is difficult to understand the omission of Rhys Patchell (who played with distinction in last year's full Welsh tour of NZ) and Aaron Shingler (who never seems to have a bad game for the Scarlets), but the omission of James Davies beggars belief.
When McBryde says that Davies needs to "keep fit, play regularly and consistently", I wonder wether he's suffering from amnesia. I doubt that he's missed more than a handful of games all season and I've lost count of the number of "man of the match" awards he's had.
The fact that they were injured at the time of selection did not prevent Gatland picking Alun Wyn Jones and Connor Murray for the Lions - but a couple of weeks off seems to be fatal as far as McBryde is concerned. Its an appalling omission and one wonders what incentive will there be for him to stay playing in Wales.
Before I'm accused of seeing everything through scarlet spectacles, I also cannot understand the omission of Dan Baker or Dan Evans.
