Indonesian president nominated as candidate of GGGI president: spokesman.
CAKARTA (CyHAN)- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has been nominated as a candidate of president of the Seoul-based international environmental organization Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) to replace Lars Lokke Rasmussen, Indonesian presidential office spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said here on Tuesday.
Faizasyah made the announcement after a meeting of Yudhohyono and Directorate General of GGGI Yvo de Boer at the State Palace.
"President Yudhoyono accepted the nomination, and later, there will be an official announcement in New York" on the nomination, Faizasyah told a press conference.
Yvo de Boer confirmed Faizasyah's statement, saying that the election of the GGGI president would be conducted on Nov. 18, 2014.
"The tenure will be two years," he said.
Yudhoyono's tenure as the president of Indonesia is to end on Oct. 20. Indonesia had witnessed economic growth of more than 6 percent per year during most of his 10 years in office.
Yudhoyono had also led a campaign of planting 1 billion trees per year and enforced law and order on those engaging in deforestation in the country. (Cihan/Xinhua) CyHAN
