Indonesia gains from falling rubber exports from Thailand.
Indonesia's boosted exports of natural rubber to China taking
advantage of falling supply from two largest rivals Thailand and
Malaysia. Indonesia exported 56,190 tons of natural rubber to China in
the first two months of this year or an increase of 63.7% from 34,325
tons in the same period last year, the Association of Rubber Companies
(Gaikindo) said. Gaikindo director Suharto Honggokusumo said seasonal
fall in productivity is not yet over in Thailand and Malaysia offering
an opportunity for Indonesia to grab a larger share of the market in the
world's largest consumer. Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia are
respectively the largest, second largest and third largest producers of
natural rubber accounting for the bulk of the world's supply.
Seasonal fall in productivity has not come to Indonesia which lies south
of the equatorial line, Suharto said. Indonesia's largest buyer for
natural rubber has been the United States.
