Indonesia Has Modern International Pesantren.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has inaugurated the establishment of Modern Dea Malela Islamic Boarding School (pesantren) in Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara. Jokowi expressed his amazement at the modern structure of the pesantren buildings that are unique adjusted the contour of the hill.
'This will be an international campus, God willing. It is not a dream, it will become a reality,' said Jokowi, as reported on Monday (7/30).
Dea Malela Islamic Boarding School is projected as an international Islamic education institution. The boarding school's auditorium is to be named after Jokowi, Engineer Joko Widodo.
'I think the auditorium is quite huge. I don't know yet, but I already said yes,' said Jokowi.
He also reminded Indonesia as a nation with a lot of differences ranging from ethnicity, culture, to the religion. Even so, Indonesian people can still unite in these differences.
'Therefore, I invite all of us to take care of the Islamic brotherhood, to care for the brotherhood of the Wathaniyah, because this is our common duty in facing the differences,' said Jokowi.
On the same occasion, the President's Special Envoy for Inter-religious and Civil Dialogue and Cooperation, Din Syamsuddin, said that some of the students who study at Dea Malela coming from Thailand, Cambodia, Russia and Timor Leste.
'The construction of pesantren buildings is supported by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Religion, and state-owned companies Pertamina, PLN, BNI, and BRI,' Din said.
