Indian-origin Oz woman all rounder Sthalekar retires from international cricket.

Sydney, Feb 19 ( ANI ): Indian-origin Australian all rounder Lisa Sthalekar has announced her retirement from international cricket following their sixth World Cup in Mumbai on Sunday.

33-year old Sthalekar pulled the pin after eight Tests, 125 ODIs and 54 T20 internationals for the Southern Stars, reports.

Sthalekar took 2-20 in 10 typically frugal overs in the overnight final before taking a spectacular diving catch for the final West Indian wicket, a fitting way to go out for one of Australian cricket's best-prepared athletes, the paper said.

The Sydneysider, the first woman to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in ODIs, is ranked the number one T20 all-rounder and bowler in the world and holds the No.2 ranking in the same ODI categories.

Sthalekar said the decision to retire had not come easily, but believes to finish her international career by playing in a successful ICC Women's World Cup in the country of her birth is quite special for her.

Sthalekar added women's cricket has changed a lot during her time in the game and it's been an honour to witness this evolution first hand.

The all rounder added they have seen at this year's World Cup that the standard of women's cricket across the world has grown immensely in the last few years alone.

Sthalekar added she would like to continue her involvement in all aspects of the game, adding cricket has given her a great deal during her life and she wants to be able to give something back, whether it be through coaching, mentoring or other avenues.

Sthalekar has been recognised with several awards through her outstanding career, including the Belinda Clark Award in 2007 and 2008, the WNCL Player of the Year in 2007/08 and 2011/12 and being nominated for the ICC Women's Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008 and the ICC Women's T20 Player of the Year in 2012.
