Indian community celebrates Yoga Day.

The Indian community in Qatar celebrated the International Day of Yoga in Doha. The Indian community members took part in the yoga camp initiated by the Indian embassy, socio-cultural organisations, arts and cultural institutions, and Indian schools. Indian Ambassador to Qatar HE P Kumaran and apex body members of the Indian community attended the yoga camp held at the iconic Qatar National Museum. Meanwhile, hundreds of people attended yoga camps and workshops at Asian Town, Al Khor and Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim al Thani Museum initiated by the Indian embassy. The events featured yoga demonstrations by experts based on common yoga protocol including breathing techniques followed by meditation. As a prelude to the celebration of the International Day of Yoga, numerous workshops and demonstrations in collaboration with well known Doha based Yoga Studios have been conducted by the Embassy in the last two months including workshops for students in various schools based in Doha. In addition, yoga sessions for Indian community members based in Al Khor were also organised on a regular basis. Prominent Indian community members who attended yoga camps at different locations included President of Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) PN Baburajan, President of Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) AP Manikantan, President of Indian Sports Centre (ISC) Nilangshu Dey, and representatives of different socio-cultural organisations. India's Resolution at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to declare June 21 as the International Day of Yoga was unanimously adopted on December 11, 2014, with a record co-sponsorship of 177 countries, including Qatar.
