Indian Customs arrest Afghan passenger for possession of heroin.
Mohamad Sabir, 20, was arrested under Section 67 of the NDPS Act.
He came under electronic surveillance after disembarking from an Ariana Afghan Airlines flight on the evening of November 7.
He was found opening various bags on a conveyer belt and checking for something, and this aroused suspicion.
Sabir, a resident of Kandahar, Afghanistan, was stopped in the Green Channel and his baggage was x-rayed.
Scanning indicated concealment in the bottom of the baggage.
On detailed examination, a bag was found sewn at the bottom to create the cavity. On opening up this bottom, four packets containing a white powdered substance was recovered.
The Ion Scanning Test Machine gave positive result of heroin for each of the samples taken out of the four packets.
Customs officers also recovered an unclaimed bag in the arrival hall of the Indira gandhi International Airport. A detailed examination revealed six kilograms of heroin.
Intelligence Unit and Air Customs Preventive team then identified the passenger who had left the bag and continuously kept surveillance on various flights arriving from Afghanistan.
The passenger was identified as Mir Hamza, also of Kandahar. (ANI)
