India : MHL plans to explore partnerships with INDIAN consumer electronics companies.

As per the reports, US based Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL), is exploring possibilities to partner with Indian companies and work closely with the Indian game publishers, content providers and local mobile device manufacturers. MHL is a consortium promoted by Nokia, Samsung, Silicon Image, Sony and Toshiba, and is keen to establish MHL technology (known as de facto standard of choice for audio/video connectivity) for mobile devices.

The MHL Consortium feels that the Indian market is inspiring for MHL as it has a mobile device penetration of 73 percent, with a huge number of feature phone makers upgrading to smart phones. 2012 saw significant adoption of MHL feature-phones and smart-phones. MHL expects 2013 to be the year of MHL enabled Televisions. In fact Sony has recently introduced an MHL enabled television set, which is exciting news.

Games continue to be the top selling Smart-phone applications, whereas for Set-Top-Box s, its streaming mobile video using MHL's unique Remote Control Protocol. Another key area is around smart-phone to dashboard, car infotainment systems that are entering the market. The automotive sector is starting to embrace mobility in a big way, with manufacturers such as Hyundai, JVC-Kenwood and Pioneer viewing MHL as a compelling solution to integrate the phone into the car infotainment experience. These aftermarket units have been designed and engineered to utilize the most advanced Smart-phone connectivity options currently available for the aftermarket.
