India : Ahmedabad Textile Industry's Research Association set to enter space technology and applications industry.
The Ahmedabad Textile Industry's Research Association (Atira) will soon enter the space technology and applications industry.
The Association has entered a 5-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Space Application Centre (SAC) of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
The MoU has been signed to develop satellite payload component-hardware using composite-advanced materials for application a SAC.
Atira will develop the following components : antenna reflectors, feed horns camera metering structures airborne payload fixtures, microwave payload structures like MSMR and scatterometer among others while more components may be added as and when the need is realized.
With the financial support of SAC, Atira will develop its facility to create and manufacture components, and provide testing services, to help SAC reach a higher level of effectiveness and efficiency in its operation.
K K Misra, CEO, Atira, said, "For many months, the Atira Composite team has been closely interacting with engineers of Antenna System Mechanical Group o understand the requirements and complexities involved in various types of antenna systems used in SATCOM and microwave remote sen ing antennas."
R M Sankar, principal scientific officer, Atira, added,"At present, about 10 to 20 different parts are being fabricated in a year, whereas the requirement can be increased to around 200 parts per annum in following five years. It will further increase manifold in the coming 10 years. The agreements for five years. Over last two years, Atira team has been interacting with various organisations involved in the space technology sector and SAC to learn the requirements of the space-borne components made of carbonfiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and used in satellite structures and payloads."
