India : AUTOMATION at Hyderabad Airport enhanced by E-boarding.

The E-boarding solution officially introduced at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) will be replicated across all the airports in India.

Developed with in-house know-how by the GMR Group-led Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), the E-boarding system covers all the end-to-end key passenger processes at the airport. A passenger can make use of the E-boarding mode right from entering the terminal, check-in, security check till he or she reaches the boarding bridge.

As it saves time apart from adding to the passenger convenience those airports having higher footfalls are likely to adopt E-boarding before others start using the system,

SGK Kishore, chief executive officer GHIAL said, "We have been continuously working to enhance the passenger experience at Hyderabad Airport. Introducing solutions based on technology is our key focus area in the airport operation.

A domestic passenger flying from the airport will require only a mobile E-boarding card and his Aadhaar Card number to gain entry into the airport. They need flash the E-boarding card at e-Gate bar code readers as they continue towards the boarding entry point.

On the other hand, the system is evenly compatible with other conventional modes. One can use the boarding card issued by CUSS machine or check-in counters or show a photo-ID to gain entry into the airport in case the Aadhaar number is not available, according to the airport authorities.

Execution of successful E-boarding at RGIA was an outcome of the flawless teamwork with cross functional teams and their stake holders-Air India, Jet Airways, Spice Jet among other airlines and Central Industrial Security Force, as per to Kishore.

After gaining the approval from Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) under the Ministry of Civil Aviation in August, 2015, GHIAL has implemented the E-Boarding process for all domestic passengers at RGIA.

Movement through this channels make sure that the passenger's movements are tracked electronically and through dedicated HD CCTV cameras at each of these checkpoints, adding an extra layer to the security at the airport, according to the airport operator.
