Inclusive 'tech' brightens days.

AT Butterwick House Hospice we are lucky enough to have a lot of very clever technology that gives lots of enjoyment to many of our young visitors.

It is really special and it enables children who can't control their movements very well, or who can't use their fingers to use a computer, control simple programmes or even alter the colour of the whole lighting system in a room. Can you imagine how empowering that is for a child who normally doesn't control very much at all? Some of the wonderful technical magic tools we have, such as our very specialist computer and accessories, have been donated by another charity called Lifelites.

They are a national charity that raises funds to pay for such things to be made available to children in hospices across the country.

Other items we must fund ourselves, and they are always really expensive. But watching a little person who can't normally see actually respond with delight to the colourful light box they are controlling with their own touch is very moving and worth every penny.

Some of our special equipment is controlled with the aid of a foot pad or a simple switch that can be operated with a foot if a hand won't work.

It's really enabling stuff and it makes a tremendous difference to those young people whose lives we work to enrich.

We do feel very privileged to be in a position to provide these specialist technologies.

We love the smiles they bring and the laughter they cause.

Your support is often what provides these wonderful tools and tricks that brighten young lives.

So when you give to Butterwick House, I hope you see in your mind's eye a young person enjoying the fruits of your generosity.

If you would like to make a donation towards the work of Butterwick House Hospice for babies, children and young adults, please either call the fundraising office on 01642 628930 or go online to our website at If you would like to do something really amazing and give yourself an extraordinary experience too, we do still have guaranteed places available for the Great North Run. PS300 raised from this iconic unforgettable event goes a long way towards creating many more smiles and laughter. Thank you for your support.
