In the end lies a beginning.
By Maria Gregoriou
Technology, as we all know, makes the world seem smaller. In that vein this week audiences in Cyprus can enjoy performances by the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow right here in Paphos and Nicosia with the screening of the ballet Lady of the Camellias at the K Cineplex in Strovolos, Nicosia and at the Kings Avenue Mall in Paphos.
Lady of the Camellias, which is inspired by Alexandre Dumas' successful novel, was choreographed by John Neumeier with music by Frederic Chopin.
The story performed by the famous Bolshoi dancers brings new life to the ballet. The story revolves around the most desirable courtesan in Paris, Marguerite Gautier. On her death, all of her luxury belongings are to be disposed of by auction. Among those inspecting the items is Monsieur Duval, the father of the young bourgeois Armand Duval, who was deeply and madly in love with Marguerite. Suddenly, Armand enters the room and, overwhelmed by memories, he collapses. The story unfolds as a series of memories from various points of view that finally reveal the truth.
This is a pre-recorded screening and there are many more such screenings to come this year. There will also be welcome drinks and nibbles.
