Charles Alan (Al) Mordy, president and CEO of Cloverdale Paint Company, of Surrey, B.C., longtime member of the ACA board of directors, and a friend of many in the paint industry, passed away on June 4. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy, and his two children, Douglas (Candice) and Ann (Isha).
Mordy was born in North Vancouver, but spent his childhood in Portland and San Francisco before moving back to Vancouver as a young man. He became a chartered accountant after articling with KPMG, and in 1976 he joined Cloverdale Paint as controller, working his way up to president and CEO.
In addition to ACA, where he served on the board from 2011-2015, Mordy was active in several other industry-related associations in Canada and the United States, where Cloverdale had extended its presence in recent years.
After a successful 40-year career, Mordy had recently been involved in building a management team at both Cloverdale Paint and Rodda Paint companies that would enable him to ease out of the day-to-day operations. Cloverdale has credited his foresight with helping to provide for the group of companies to continue to prosper.
