Improved Satellite Computer: LOS ALAMOS NATIONAL LABORATORY.
Running every satellite is a computer that provides processing power for all satellite function. Computers built for space must be rugged enough to withstand the shock and vibration of a rocket launch, must be hardened against the natural space radiation that destroys electronics and must be small enough and consume sufficiently low power to work on a satellite powered by solar cells. Rad-Hard SingleBoard Computer (Rad-Hard SBC) is a smaller, more lightweight single-board computer that meets the harsh requirements of space and uses less power than any other space-grade computer that is currently available, at half the cost of similar products. With its multi-core processor and user-configurable Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) hardware capability, the Rad-Hard SBC can be used for command and data handling, processing of mission data, or both. Its Micro Telecommunication Computing Architecture (MicroTCA) standard compliance allows easy interoperability with commercial support equipment.
