CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 9, 2003

Winner of 4 Tony Awards(R) including Best Musical!

Featuring a New Audio Commentary Track!

Image Entertainment, Inc. (Nasdaq:DISK), a leading licensee and distributor of DVD programming, announced the June 10th DVD release of the groundbreaking Broadway musical drama, "Passion." One of the most emotionally powerful and widely admired collaborations between Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, this release features a newly recorded, never-before-available audio commentary featuring the major talents in front of and behind the scenes.

This unconventional love story set in 19th Century Italy charts the triangle between handsome soldier Giorgio (Jere Shea), the married Clara (Marin Mazzie), and the ailing, homely Fosca (Donna Murphy), who reveals the nature of true inner beauty. The program, which achieved great success during its airings on PBS, was licensed from Buena Vista Television and was originally produced on Broadway by The Schubert Organization, Capital Cities/ABC, Roger Berlind, and Scott Rudin by arrangement with Lincoln Center Theater.

Prior to "Passion," Sondheim (music and lyrics) and Lapine (book and direction) had already established themselves as formidable partners in musical theater with their beloved audience favorites, "Sunday in the Park with George" and "Into the Woods" (also available on DVD from Image Entertainment). Recorded in December, 2002, their new commentary track takes the listener behind the scenes with Murphy (who earned a Tony Award(R) for Best Actress in a Musical), Shea, Mazzie, and Broadway producer Ira Weitzman.

This long-awaited DVD features a new Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, highlighting the ambitious and powerful score which features "Loving You," "Happiness," "I Wish I Could Forget You," and "No One Has Ever Loved Me." Unlike traditional musicals, "Passion" features a continuous flow of melody and musical accompaniment, creating a romantic and intimate experience which has already become a modern classic.

Additionally, an extended version of "No One Has Ever Loved Me," performed by Jere Shea but cut during previews, has been included as an audio-only extra. This number, referred to in the audio commentary, was recorded at the first public preview on March 24, 1994.
