ILOILO CITY -- By 2022, the city and province of Iloilo will have distributed 44,898 hectares of land to farmers as part of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).
Lucrecia Taberna, Iloilo director of Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), said that is the target for land acquisition and distribution (LAD).
Speaking at Iloilo's LAD Free 2022 launching, Taberna told Manila Bulletin said achieving the target has three phases.
First DAR will identify and validate an additional 13,398 ha of suitable agricultural lands starting next month.
Second, Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOAs) will be given to individual farmers instead of farmers groups. In Iloilo, the collective CLOAs cover more than 29,000 ha of farmland.
Third, Iloilo will had over 2,500 ha of government-owned land to farmers.
More than 52,000 farmers in Iloilo City, Passi City, and 42 other towns have been beneficiaries of agrarian land reform for more than three decades.
These farmers till a combined 70,579 ha of farmland.
