If Parliament of Kyrgyzstan fails to pass new election laws before June, presidential elections might be disrupted -- expert.

If the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan fails to pass amendments to the election legislation before May 15, the presidential and subsequent elections might be disrupted, said Ishenbai Kadyrbekov, member of the group of experts, at the roundtable discussion on election legislation reforms on February 18. The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan established a working group of parliamentarians to consider amendments to the election legislation. International organizations supported establishment of a working group of experts to provide recommendations for parliamentarians.Ishenbai Kadyrbekov stressed that the period for adoption of new laws is very short. "If the elections are announced in October, the electoral process will start in August. Thus, May 1-15 is the deadline for the Parliament to pass all necessary laws. We should conclude discussions and submit the draft to the Parliament before March 10-15. This is why the group of experts works every day now," he said.He also proposed to recheck voter lists in summer 2011 to ensure good quality of these lists for upcoming elections.
