Idemitso Starts AA Plant

The addition of a new acrylic acid plant by Idemitsu Petrochemical is another addition into the Japanese superabsorbent supply market. Idemitsu's new plant began regular production earlier this month with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons a year. The plant, which makes Idemitsu the newest player in the domestic business, is currently dedicated to acrylic esters but will be expanded into superabsorbent polymers.

Mitsubishi Petrochemical and Toagosei Chemical have just completed large superabsorbent plant expansions this year as well.
