* First Alternative Woman, a new venture aimed at taking advantage of the better safety record of women drivers, has entered the U.K. market.

The company is a joint venture between HBOS plc, the U.K. financial-services group, and Peter Wood, a British entrepreneur best known for establishing Direct Line Insurance plc. First Alternative Woman will sell directly to its customers.

* London-based broker Lucas Fettes & Partners has created Home Value Protection to cover people whose homes fall in value as a result of events out of their control.

Such developments can include the building of shopping centers and the construction of roads, prisons and noisy neighbors.
