IdeaCast Selects the Motorola On-Target Content Distribution System to Bring Customized Local Content to Health Clubs Across North America.

Motorola's Advanced Content Delivery Platform will Customize National Programming and Advertisements for Targeted Local Broadcast - Creating New Revenue Opportunities and Meaningful Audience Experiences

CHICAGO -- IdeaCast Inc., a place-based television network, today announced that the company will use content distribution technology from Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT), to deliver customized national content to affiliates of IdeaCast's health club network. IdeaCast will use the Motorola On-Target local content distribution system to create a platform that delivers localized, targeted advertisements accessible to almost 40,000 health club patrons.

Through the Motorola On-Target technology, the viewer experience at IdeaCast's affiliate health clubs can be customized by geography, club chain, club interest group, or on an individual location basis. Motorola's On-Target uplink management component will allow IdeaCast to manage, create, schedule, and distribute content, while the system's Integrated Receiver Decoder (IRD), located in IdeaCast affiliate health clubs, will receive, store, and insert the customized content into the network's national feed on a pre-scheduled or real-time basis.

About the Motorola On-Target[TM] System

Building on the widely deployed Motorola DigiCipher[R] II satellite network platform, the Motorola On-Target customized content distribution system is a new end-to-end system that allows national feeds to be customized by inserting pre-positioned, disk-based content at affiliate receive sites.

The Motorola On-Target system consists of an uplink management component to ingest, manage, schedule, and distribute content - and a downlink IRD with internal hard drive to receive, store, and insert customized content into the national feed on a pre-scheduled or real time basis. Using the On-Target system, regionalized content such as advertisements can be pre-positioned, and the ISR 4410 can be commanded to insert the content during the selected local avail time slot.

The Motorola Model ISR (Integrated Server Receiver) 4410 includes a 100 gigabyte hard drive which can be used to store MPEG2 video clips, graphics and text that can be inserted customized spots into a video feed received from a satellite uplink location. Graphics and text can be animated and composited with stored or live content - with content seamlessly switched between the live and stored feeds.

The On Target Control System is server- based on an open platform which provides the facilities to manage the downlink IRDs, provide backup images of the ISR disk drives, and queue the file transmissions to all ISRs, a subset, or a single ISR. In addition, the system includes an authoring station where editors can create timelines, graphics and text playlists and preview and proof any sequence prior to distribution to the ISR population. The authoring station is web-based and can be located at an affiliate site so that local content can be created and transmitted to the On Target Control System for eventual playout to headend-resident ISR4410s.
