Icelandair CEO announces resignation.


Sigurdur Helgason, the CEO of Icelandic airline Icelandair, has announced that he will be resigning from the company on 31 May this year.

Helgason has served as Icelandair's group president and CEO for the last 20 years and first joined the airline as director of management and insurance in July 1974.

Chairman Hannes Smarason will reportedly take over Helgason's duties and focus on expansion and business development.

Helgason will continue to advise the board for the next few years.
