Ice queen's tour de force; INTERVIEW.
Already a star in her native Norway, singer-songwriter Ane Brun is sure to shine further afield with her It All Starts With One album.
Ane delayed recording the album while she toured with two of her major influences, Grammy-winning singer Ani DiFranco and Peter Gabriel, who is one of her biggest supporters and with whom she recorded Don't Give Up.
"With Peter I was singing someone else's music," says Ane, 35. "I've never done that before and it made me learn more aspects to my voice."
Her singular vocals are at the centre of an expansive but intimate sound on the album, as in the sea-bound Undertow.
"I grew up by the fjords," says Ane, "but this is the first time I've used the nature of where I come from for metaphors. When you grow up by the ocean it's always in your blood."
Ane Brun plays London Scala tonight.
