Ibetx impresses as Tony takes off at Dundalk.

Byline: Michael Fortune

THE Marie Gilbert-trained Aho Tony was the outstanding star in the first round of the Bar One Racing Irish Sprint Cup at Dundalk on Friday.

Recent winner of the Junior Cup at the same venue, Aho Tony flew from traps in heat ten and powered his way to a three length winning margin over Contador in 21.15sec. The first two will again clash in heat six in Friday's second round where Brother Lee and Diego Meister will also be in the lineup.

Though not as quick on the clock, Jim Morrissey's Carlows Pride maintained his unbeaten sprint record when winning in 21.34sec. He has now run ten sprints and has won them all, including two major opens, the Tote Waterford Guineas and the Lifford Super Sprint.

He will be fancied to make it 11 on Friday when he goes in a relatively easy heat five.

Others to impress in the opening round were former UK racer Ibetx Dot Com with a 21.28sec run and Shaneboy Nadal, who completed a double for trainer Morrissey with a 21.40sec run that was much better than the mere time would suggest.
