IWI DEBUTS COMMUNIQUE FAMILY OF PLUG & PLAY REMOTE ACCESS,

BULLETIN BOARD SERVERS FOR NOVELL NETWORKS; INCLUDES WINDOWS 3.1
SAN FRANCISCO, July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- At ComputerLand's Business Technology Conference (Moscone Center, July 16-18, booth R6-R8), IWI will be introducing the COMMUNIQUE(TM) Remote Access and Bulletin Board System (BBS) servers, the first family of plug & play network communication server solutions for remote access and bulletin board applications. Optimized for use on Novell networks, COMMUNIQUE also is the first communication system to include Windows 3.1 in its Remote Access server solutions.
COMMUNIQUE servers offer cost-effective alternatives to traditional remote access and bulletin board systems. List priced from $8,995, COMMUNIQUE offers a 40 percent savings over the cost of dedicated, standalone workstations. The completely modular design of COMMUNIQUE allows systems to be easily configured to match users' needs. Each line also comes with a 9,600bps (V.32) or 14,400bps (V.32bis) high-speed modem, that supports V.42bis (data compression for faster transmission speed) and MNP 10 error correction. Bundled with application software, COMMUNIQUE servers can be up and running in under 30 minutes.
Since all COMMUNIQUE systems are modular, they are field expandable and reconfigurable (from 4-lines to 63-lines), field upgradeable and compatible with off-the-shelf software. Any number of these COMMUNIQUE systems can be added to a LAN, for unlimited dial-in line capability. Other benefits include a 20-to-one space reduction, up to a 35 percent reduction in telephone line connect charges, and 95 percent reduction in power consumption. COMMUNIQUE servers are fast, running three to five times faster than Ethernet or token ring, yet are totally compatible with those systems. LAN administrators can manage the entire COMMUNIQUE System from a single workstation anywhere on the network for integrated system management and security.
Unlike the standard approach to remote access and BBS servers, which requires a dedicated workstation with its own network interface card, hub connection and uninterruptable power supply, COMMUNIQUE is a single connection on a user's LAN topology. All COMMUNIQUE systems run in Novell NetWare 2.x and 3.x environments, and include NetWare and DR DOS LANPack. Application software bundled with each system includes WILDCAT! for COMMUNIQUE BBS and pcANYWHERE with Windows 3.1 for COMMUNIQUE Remote Access.
Mustang Software's WILDCAT! is the premier BBS software package for NetWare. COMMUNIQUE Remote Access includes pcANYWHERE, yet is fully compatible with leading industry packages such as Carbon Copy Plus, ReachOut and CoSession, thus maintaining existing software investments. IWI also offers a remote site package, so remote users can dial into COMMUNIQUE from a roving laptop or remote location. This saves customers the need to install another LAN, yet the user feels that he/she is right there on the company's network. pcANYWHERE offers complete access protection to the LAN when external applications are used.
"COMMUNIQUE uses the modular, multiprocessor architecture we've developed, which enables us to offer Fortune 1000 customers a reliable, fast and effective solution to their LAN communication needs," noted IWI President Majid Soleimani. "We have evolved COMMUNIQUE over the past six years and are pleased by the enthusiastic response we've received from both users and resellers to this new family."
Jim Northington, executive vice president at IWI, explained, "Our mission is to address the needs of the reseller and the corporate customer for communication systems that are plug & play, flexible, easy to install and operate, and compatible with industry standards, like Windows 3.1. Our goal is to remain the price/performance leader in connectivity solutions."
The COMMUNIQUE product family for both Remote Access and BBS consists of the COMMUNIQUE 4/12, 4/24, 4/36 and 32/63 models, starting at suggested list price of $8,995 for the four-line system. The COMMUNIQUE family of servers is available now through Novell-authorized VARs, system integrators and dealers worldwide. All products have a one-year warranty on parts and labor, plus IWI's Expedite Program(TM) which provides immediate replacement of any problem board.
IWI is the industry leader in plug & play LAN communication solutions for Novell networks. IWI's COMMUNIQUE communications systems are installed at Fortune 1000 companies worldwide. IWI is located at 1648 Mabury Road, San Jose, CA 95133. Phone: 408-923-0301. Fax: 408-923-0427.
