IVT Granted Patent for Burstware; 7th U.S. Patent Covers Burstware's Core Delivery Technology.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1999--

Instant Video Technologies (OTC: IVDO) www.burst.com, today announced that it has been granted a United States patent for Burstware(R), its enterprise-class video and audio delivery software.

The patent, No. 5963202, is IVT's seventh U.S. patent, and is the first that specifically addresses the Burstware(R) product line. Burstware(R) is the first time-based media delivery solution to optimize network performance and dramatically improve media quality over both broadband and narrowband. The patent covers, among other things, the "Burst-related" communication between client and server that is the core of Burstware(R)'s delivery technology.

The patent issuance follows the recent announcement of Burstware(R)'s availability for use over the Internet. According to IVT Chairman, CEO and President Richard Lang, "Our intellectual property is an important element in our overall business strategy. The combination of recent events, including a major multi-year reseller agreement, the availability of Burstware(R) for use over the Internet, and now the first specific Burstware(R) patent issuance is indicative of the growing momentum behind Burstware(R)."

IVT began building its patent portfolio in the 1980's, in anticipation of the convergence of several key industry trends: the increase and widespread availability of bandwidth, low-cost, high-capacity storage, and the standardization of video compression technologies. Now that these trends have become a reality, IVT's patent portfolio covers what Lang describes as "key technology for the delivery of high-quality media over networks." This portfolio spans a wide variety of Faster-Than-Real-Time(TM) implementations, from the basic concepts of "bursting" over a multitude of networks, to the use of bursting and smart communication between servers and clients, as embodied in Burstware(R) software. IVT has a number of other patents pending in the U.S. and worldwide.

"The issuance of this patent is an important event for IVT, but it also has important implications for the industry as a whole." said Lang. "We believe this intellectual property will provide significant strategic opportunities for other companies looking to find more efficient and reliable means of delivering data over networks."
