IVI PUBLISHING AND TIME LIFE TO JOINTLY DEVELOP AND MARKET NEW CD-ROM TITLES

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- IVI Publishing (NASDAQ-NMS: IVIP), an electronic publisher of medical and health information in interactive multimedia formats, and Time Life, a division of Time Warner Inc. (NYSE: TWX) headquartered in Alexandria, Va., today announced an agreement under which IVI will develop six Time Life health-related titles in interactive CD-ROM format.
In addition, the agreement also calls for cooperative distribution of the titles published in CD-ROM format. Time Life will offer the CD-ROM versions of the titles through direct marketing channels. IVI Publishing will market the Time Life titles through its direct sales force to software and multimedia wholesalers and retailers nationwide.
"We think IVI Publishing's initial products are outstanding -- and the market's response to them affirms that," said John Fahey, CEO of Time Life. "We're impressed with its management team and delighted it recognizes that these Time Life titles are so well suited to the new media formats," said Fahey.
Ron Buck, CEO of IVI Publishing, said that while the agreement with Time Life initially encompasses six titles, it is expected to be the foundation for a long-term partnership with the company. "Time Life has a vast archive of high quality material that both we and they think will make compelling interactive CD-ROM products," said Buck. "Time Life's decision to work with us on this venture into electronic publishing in CD-ROM format is a tremendous vote of confidence in the quality of our products and the capabilities of our company."
IVI Publishing's first CD-ROM titles, developed in partnership with Mayo Clinic, are "Mayo Clinic Family Health Book CD-ROM," which has sold more than a quarter million copies since its release last year, and "Mayo Clinic -- The Total Heart CD-ROM," which was released in October. A third title developed with Mayo, "Mayo Clinic -- Family Pharmacist," will be released during the first quarter of 1994.
The first three titles IVI Publishing will develop from Time Life's library will be health awareness and education titles for children. They will include: "What is a Belly Button?", from the series "First Questions and Answers"; "Our Bodies," from the series "A Child's First Library of Learning"; and "The Human Body," from the series "Understanding Science and Nature." Buck said the other three titles covered by the initial agreement with Time Life will also be from Time Life's large archive of health-related titles.
Time Life was established in the early 1960s and has published more than 1,000 books in areas ranging from science and technology to history, cooking, gardening, health, nature, and do-it-yourself projects.
