BOSTON, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Vomo Island, once the exclusive domain of Fiji's former kings, is home to ITT Sheraton Corporation's newest resort -- the Sheraton Vomo Resort. The exclusive resort joins ITT Sheraton's fastest growing division, its Asia-Pacific Division, and brings the number of ITT Sheraton hotels, inns and resorts in that division to 45. It is the company's second property in the Fiji Islands, joining the Sheraton Fiji Resort on Denarau Beach.
The Sheraton Vomo Resort consists of 30 private villas and a grand Royal Deluxe Villa, which are all situated along the beach or on the lower slopes of Vomo's impressive mountain. All villas offer verandas with beach and ocean views and are beautifully landscaped to offer total privacy.
"We have preserved the unique environment of Vomo Island and its adjacent Vomo Lailai for the exclusive use of the Sheraton Vomo Resort's guests," said Robert F. Cotter, ITT Sheraton senior vice president and president of the company's Asia-Pacific Division. "On what has long been considered among the most beautiful of Fiji's Islands, the Sheraton Vomo Resort will offer a whole new concept in Pacific leisure destinations. The resort will offer the discriminating traveler an exclusive vacation experience with an emphasis on privacy, comfort and superb service in an atmosphere unequalled for its natural beauty," Cotter added.
To help preserve the islands' unique beauty and surrounding coral reefs, guests of the Sheraton Vomo Resort will be flown onto the island by private helicopter from either the neighboring Sheraton Fiji Resort or Nadi International Airport. The 10- to 15-minute helicopter ride adds to the ambience and exclusivity of the resort, offering passengers breathtaking views of the islands. Once on Vomo Island, guests are transported by open buggy through the island's landscaped gardens and orchards to the Sheraton Vomo Resort.
Each of the resort's 30 villas offer a separate living room, bathroom with spa tub and separate shower, hair dryers, and a separate vanity area, large enclosed lanai, personalized in-room bar, refrigerator, coffee making facilities, original oil paintings, ceiling fans and air conditioning. The Royal Deluxe Villa offers two bedrooms, two bathrooms and separate living and dining areas. Twenty-four hour, personal service offers everything from complimentary laundry and pressing, dry cleaning, and 24-hour room service to ensure that guests' every needs are met.
Guests of the Sheraton Vomo Resort will not lack for dining options. Besides offering complimentary American breakfast each day, the resort also boasts four different restaurants. Ranging from The Gazebo, which offers light snacks, salads and local seafood by the pool, to Beyond the Reef, overlooking the beach and serving international cuisine and display cooking, to On The Rocks, situated on a volcanic rock overlooking Vomo Lailai, and offering breathtaking sunset views and evening barbecue specialties, the Sheraton Vomo Resort takes full advantage of the island's mouth-watering seafood vegetables and tropical fruits. Guests can also relax in The Reef, the intimate cocktail bar, overlooking the pool and the beach. Those seeking the ultimate in private dining options may opt for a Romantic Island Interlude, which offers an individually prepared private luncheon on the intimate island of Vomo Lailai or on selected lagoons on the 225-acre Vomo Island.
Sports enthusiasts will have a long list of options, including catamarans, sailboards, snorkeling among live coral reefs, ocean lagoon swimming, windsurfing, scuba diving, deep sea fishing expeditions, tennis, a pitch and putt golf course and separate driving range, volleyball, badminton, croquet, table tennis, cycling and aerobics classes. The resort also offers jogging tracks and guided adventure treks to the top of Vomo and across to Vomo Lailai.
Those wishing to combine business with pleasure can hold their meeting in a small meeting room at the new resort, which is an exact replica of the meeting house once used by Fiji's kings and senior chiefs which existed on the island during the early part of the century.
ITT Sheraton's fastest-growing division, the Asia-Pacific Division has increased in size from eight to 45 hotels in the eight years during which it has existed. The Division consists of 31 properties in the Asia region, including Japan, which joined the Division earlier this year, and 14 in the Pacific. Twenty more Asia-Pacific hotels are scheduled to open by the end of this decade. These new additions include all-Towers facilities in Jakarta and Bangkok, which will join the company's other all-Towers hotels Singapore and Melbourne, Australia, and new hotels in Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Medan, Semarang and Batam, Indonesia. Already opened this year are the Sheraton Manikar Resort in Labuan, Malaysia and the Sheraton Nusa Indah Resort in Bali, Indonesia.
