ITT HARTFORD WILL NOT CANCEL MIDWEST FLOOD VICTIMS; BILLING SUSPENDED FOR AGENCY CUSTOMERS

HARTFORD, Conn., July 30 /PRNewswire/ -- ITT Hartford Insurance Group, a leading multi-line insurer, has suspended billing to its automobile, homeowners and business insurance agency customers in areas hit by the devastating floods in the Midwest.
Flood-area customers insured through ITT Hartford's American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) Auto and Homeowners Insurance Program will continue to be billed during the crisis, but will not be cancelled if payments are late. The continued billing is a response to AARP customer requests made after Hurricane Andrew.
 Agency Customers
"We are committed to doing whatever we can to help Midwesterners cope with this devastating event," said Carter Flatt, ITT Hartford's vice president and western division manager for property-casualty operations. "By suspending billing, our homeowners, automobile and commercial insurance customers will have one less thing to worry about during this very difficult time."
The suspension, effective immediately, will affect ITT Hartford insurance agency customers in federal- and state-designated disaster areas, including all of Iowa, most of Missouri and Wisconsin, as well as portions of Illinois, Minnesota and Kansas.
ITT Hartford will postpone billing until the affected areas recover. At that time, the premium amount that would have been due will be spread over remaining future installments. For more information, agency customers can call 1-800-243-8227.
 AARP Customers
ITT Hartford's AARP Program also is committed to serving the needs of its customers. In response to customer demand for continued billing during Hurricane Andrew last September, ITT Hartford will bill AARP member customers in the flood disaster areas. Policies, however, will not be cancelled if payment is late. When the crisis ends, ordinary billing practices will be resumed, with unpaid premium amounts extended over future installments.
"Last September when we suspended billing to AARP member customers affected by Hurricane Andrew, they asked us where their billing notices were," said Stephen J. Hasenmiller, president, ITT Hartford's Personal Lines Insurance Center. "They feared that no bill meant no policy. Today's action removes that worry, while also responding to our customers' unusual needs during this crisis."
Members of AARP insured by ITT Hartford can call 1-800-423-6789 for questions regarding automobile insurance, and 1-800-423-0567 for questions regarding homeowners insurance.
ITT Hartford Insurance Group, a subsidiary of ITT Corp.(NYSE: ITT), is one of the nation's oldest and largest international insurance and financial services operations. Member companies offer commercial property and casualty insurance, automobile and homeowners coverages, and a variety of life insurance, employee benefit and asset management plans.
