ITT HARTFORD INSURANCE GROUP SUSPENDS BILLING
 IN WAKE OF HURRICANE ANDREW
HARTFORD, Conn. Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- ITT Hartford Insurance Group has placed a 30-day moratorium on billing its insurance customers in southern Florida and in the five areas of Louisiana that were hardest hit by Hurricane Andrew to assist them in recovering from the hurricane.
Members of the American Association of Retired Persons who are insured by ITT Hartford also will have their billing suspended.
ITT Hartford has delayed sending any bill that would have been mailed beginning Aug. 24 to all its customers in the West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and Ft. Myers areas, as well as the Florida Keys. The affected ZIP codes are from 330 through 340.
In Louisiana, billing has been suspended beginning Aug. 26 for customers in the New Orleans ZIP codes that begin with 700 and 701, Thibodaux (703), Hammon (704), Lafayette (705) and Baton Rouge (707) and (708).
"We want to do everything we can to help our customers who have suffered from the damage caused by Hurricane Andrew," says Mike Hughes, ITT Hartford's vice president and division manager for property-casualty operations. The moratorium affects automobile, homeowners and business insurance customers.
Under the billing moratorium, ITT Hartford will postpone the current amount due and will provide approximately 30 days' extra time before sending the next bill. The bill sent after the 30-day moratorium will be for the delayed installment as well as the next installment due.
Immediately after Hurricane Andrew hit southern Florida, ITT Hartford dispatched 100 emergency claim adjusters to the area to handle policyholder claims.
On Wednesday, the company sent 30 emergency claim adjusters to Louisiana to help policyholders get back on their feet.
Those who have suffered property damage as a result of the hurricane are encouraged to call ITT Hartford's toll-free number: 1-800-243-5860. Phone lines are open 24 hours. Meanwhile, the company asks that policyholders make temporary repairs to prevent further damage and retain receipts for the work.
ITT Hartford, a subsidiary of ITT Corp., is one of the nation's oldest and largest international insurance and financial services operations. Member companies offer commercial property and casualty insurance, automobile and homeowners coverages, and a variety of life insurance, employee benefit and asset management plans.
