ITT HARTFORD COMPLETES ACQUISITION OF DORNBERGER/BERRY CROP BUSINESS

HARTFORD, Conn., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- ITT Hartford Insurance Group has completed acquisition of Dornberger/Berry & Co. (DBC) of Sioux Falls, S.D., from its parent, Great West Casualty Co. Terms were not released.
The acquisition greatly increases ITT Hartford's crop insurance volume, making it one of the largest crop insurers in the nation, according to Rudy Botel, assistant secretary, ITT Hartford's crop insurance department. DBC wrote $31.2 million worth of crop hail and federally reinsured multi-peril crop insurance this year. ITT Hartford wrote $40.7 million.
Included in the purchase are all of the outstanding shares of capital stock of DBC, the Dornberger/Berry name, its book of business, its 24-member staff, a fleet of cars and its two-story office building in Sioux Falls. DBC will continue to market policies under its own name, but will issue ITT Hartford policies.
