ITT HARTFORD AND AARP RENEW CONTRACT FOR AUTO AND HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE PROGRAM

ITT HARTFORD AND AARP RENEW CONTRACT FOR
 AUTO AND HOMEOWNERS INSURANCE PROGRAM
HARTFORD, Conn. Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) has renewed its endorsement of Hartford Fire Insurance Co., a subsidiary of ITT Corp., as the association's provider of automobile and homeowners insurance.
ITT Hartford has provided this service to AARP members since 1984 and currently serves a total of 1.4 million AARP-member policyholders.
The new contract runs from Jan. 1, 1993 until Dec. 31, 2002.
In announcing the contract renewal, AARP Executive Director Horace B. Deets said, "For the past eight years, Hartford has shown a strong commitment to meeting the needs of AARP members by providing competitive products, excellent service and quality educational information. Features of the program, such as lifetime renewability of automobile insurance policies and discounts for driver safety courses, are particularly important to older drivers.
"We are pleased to be able to continue this partnership and look forward to working with ITT Hartford on issues facing older drivers," Deets added.
The AARP Auto/Homeowners Insurance Program from ITT Hartford is offered by mail and by telephone through ITT Hartford's Personal Lines Insurance Center based in Southington, Conn.
ITT Hartford Chairman Donald R. Frahm said AARP's confidence in the company is evidenced by the multi-year contract renewal.
"We have always been very proud of our commitment to our customers - - and AARP has helped us to strengthen that commitment because of the emphasis it places on service to its members," said Frahm.
"In an era when many companies are pulling out of the auto insurance business, ITT Hartford is committed to growing as an auto insurer," Frahm remarked. "This renewal of the AARP contract reinforces our commitment to a line of insurance that's a necessity for most people."
ITT Hartford is one of the nation's oldest and largest international insurance and financial services operations. Member companies offer commercial property and casualty insurance, automobile and homeowners coverages, and a variety of life insurance, employee benefit and asset management plans.
