ITALY: Quinlan hope flops in Listed contest.

THE Mick Quinlan-trained Grande Capo failed to handle the sharp track and finished tailed-off last behind the 37-10 winner, Sopran Ippo, in the Listed Criterium Labronico under the lights at Livorno on Sunday night.

Noel Quinlan, representing his brother, said: "Livorno is barely six furlongs round and it was much too tight for him. He's a big horse and he just didn't have the speed for the track."

Neither Grande Capo or La Luz, whom Quinlan saddled to win a maiden at Livorno the previous weekend, will be returning to Newmarket, instead joining Rome trainer Armando Renzoni.
